Unexpected Marketing Strategy

This post is just a thought that came to my mind.

Do you have passion to make a documentary film, which has very great concept and is technically strong. Surely you can win many awards but, making money out of it in country like India can be difficult task. Since most of people like proper masala movies and never care for good documentary films.

So, now what do you do? Simple, make a documentary which you want. Put in your heart and soul, perfect in every sense and most importantly with very small budget. Then release it in all other countires except our country India.

The film is now not just nominated for many international awards but, wins them. It makes a big name overnight. Next day morning it is seen in morning news papers, news channels, people and friends around start discussing about greatness of film. Now, its time to release the film in our country India. The documentary film which would have hardly made any collections is now expected to make great opening on box office.


This is nothing but, can be a story of film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. I dont know whether this was strategy of movie makers or not. But, this can be a good way to earn especially good from documentaries.

After wining Golden Globe awards, the film has got great or rather unexpected publicity especially with help of media. The film will be viewed by many people and is expected to make great opening. What do you think suppose the film was released in India before wining any awards? Surely it wouldn't have performed well at all interms of collections. But, just imagine the drastic hike in amount which will be earned by the movie now, and with same typical Indian audience who wouldn't have even known the name of the movie (Documentary Film) earlier, however good it would be.
